Grasshoppers (Orthoptera,Gryllidae,Tetrigidae,Acrididae) of Bialowieza, Poland in 1996, Nature of Europe

Grasshoppers of Bialowieza, Eastern Poland near Bialystok

Grasshoppers were studied during a summer camps by three Dutch orthopterologists in 1996 in Bialowieza National Park in the surroundings of Narewka and Hajnowka. In 1996 at least 31 species were found on 16 places by the NJN. Grasshopper records are categorized per region. The order of the visited regions corresponds with the order of the dates. The numbers of the localities are indicated on the map on the last page. In the end of this article a systematic survey of the recorded species is given. General information about the visited regions is given in the general introduction of this report.
Introduction

The observations were done during two camps. The most important is the first jeugdbond camp (5 July - 20 July 1996). NJN(Nederlandse Jeugdbond voor Natuurstudie) is a youth organisation for studing nature and milieu.

Material and Methods

In 1996 intensive search is done in the areas listed below. Most species were recognised by sound and some only at sight. Also several grasshoppers are collected and indentified in Holland. This report is divided in three parts. The first part describes the sixteen places checked on grasshoppers. All observed Orthoptera are mentiond in Table 2 "Grasshoppers and Crickets of Bialowieza’’. After this some conclusions on diversity are made.

3. Species description

Grote groene sabelsprinkhaan Tettigonia viridissima Grunes Heupferd, Great Green Bush Cricket

According to the list this species was not seen during the camp.

Kleine groene sabelsprinkhaan Tettigonia cantans Kleines Heupferd, Small Green Bush cricket

This species was common on Bialowieza and was often seen.
