Near Puhtu and Wooden meadows
Aeshna serrata osilienis
(Nordische Mosaikjungfer)
Along the coast a lot of Phragmites was
present but only few Hawkers were seen : On Puthu
and near Muhu these large dragonflies were
present. |

Especially near Puhtu
and Virtsu on the coast brackish water moors were
available. Ideal for dragonflies like Aeshna
serrata, an artic species. Known for its saw
like tails and in Holland called Toothed Hawker/Getande
glazenmaker. Other names : Nordische
Mosaikjungfer (German) and in Swedish :
Vassmosaikslanda. This species is a little bit
larger than Aeshna subartica and Aeshna
juncea. Differences between those species
are the large 'shoulder stripe' , the spots on
the backside (abdomen 8-10) or connected with the
lateral spot on the side. Another characteristic
is the yellow vein in the wings. Because this
phot does not show it correct I am doubting if it
is not a Aeshna crenata or Siberische
Mosaikjungfer. |
