Nature of Europe: Photo gallery ZOTKS SEMPAS 1998
This page contains thumbnails from Sempas (near Nova Gorica) summercamp
in 1998. The photo's were taken by Andreja Skvarc, student biology Ljubljana.
At this camp students biology were studying nature in their summer holiday.
Photo's from Sempas 1998
The Clouded Apollo, Semi apollon (Parnassius mnemosyne) was present on several localities.
Group photo from my ZOTKS butterfly group of 1998: Rudi Verovnik, Anita , Gordana Glavon, Nika Hrabar. From left to right. Andrea and Mojca are missing.
Mladen Kotarac was so friendly to show me this pool with a lot of new dragonfly (Odonata) species which I never had seen before !!
Although it is already 5 years ago after writing this (1997 vs 2002) I thought I had seen
Crocothemis erythrae ,Somatochlora flavomaculata and a small blue dragonfly, probably Coenagrion scitulum (Dainty Damselfly or Gabel-Azurjungfer).
The last one I never saw again but the first to species are present in Holland after 1999!! I think Mladen showed me at this pond 5 new species..Unfortunately I remember only
those 3.. Mladen (my hero :--)) is not present on this picture..He certainly DID NOT WANT this...So only good memories are remaining.
But that is not true..On picture Salv2School.jpg Mladen is present..
Rudi and the author on a ancient Roman way near a place pronounced as 'OutofChina' probably Ajdovscina
28 july 1998 near a Cave near Postnoj.
On a trip to the largest caves of the world (Skocjan caves) the bats group
wanted to investigate this cave first. In front of the first car we can the
the Slovakian student Radim Hedl from Jesenik. This Cave near Postnoj was very crowdy, certainly with so many people in it! I this cave which was about
40 with 40 meter (and 1 m high)we found only two comman bats.
Also an area close to the ancient high ways. It was very hot and Oedipus Germancia,
a red winged grasshopper, was very common. I also often saw Oedipus caerulescens but
it was less common. Maybe it did not like the heat that much. For grasshoppers it was a
rich area.
Nika is checking the place where people jump from this mountain with hangliders.
The view in the valley was very beautifull and on the top of the hills very nice butterflies were
present.
Ljubljana is an ancient city and here you can see the river Ljubljanica running through
the street of Ljubljana. Jana told me that the capital of Slovenia was not beautifull,
but the innercity has great parts. I must admit that the houses built in the seventies
are ugly but everything before the 1900 is good and worth visiting.
Grote weerschijnvlinder (Apatura iris)
During my ZOTKS camp in 1998 (Sempas/Nova Gorica) a National Slovenian Camera
crew was also present. Here they are making parts for our group, the butterfly group.
To be honest, I liked the way the cut our group. It was a great film.
If you ever want to see it, I still have got a tape.
This is a picture of the students biology of the University of Ljubljana.
As you can see the country is not that strange from Holland. We were very close to
the Hungarian border, about 5 km. If you can compare Slovenia with a chicken than this place,
Salovci, located in Goricko, lays in the head of the chicken.
25 July 1998 near Nova Gorica (Slovenia)
As you can see it was very windy. Rudi Vernoviknov was also rather disappointed about the wind : During the crew there were few Black Apollo's present than we saw three days earliers. I estimate their number on about 300 in total (whole population)
